This course will focus on the spiritual and religious beliefs of African descended peoples. We will explore the such movements like Rastafari coming out of Jamaica, SanterÃa or Regla da Ocha coming from Cuban, Vodou coming from Haiti, and Candomblé from Brazil, with the idea of understanding their African roots and their basis of re-creation and survival across the Caribbean and the U.S.
