Description
This course introduces students to a wide range of approaches to the study of infancy and toddlerhood, including the development of attachment, autonomy, and a wide range of self-regulatory capacities. We will examine theories of social development in play, language and representation. The course will also consider the development of parent identity: what goes into making someone a "good" parent, and how can one, as an adult, grow in ways necessary to positive parenting? Finally the course will consider recent development in parent-infant intervention, specifically parent-infant psychotherapy.
